The Chinese don't like Blacks anyway

What started as a friendly game of basketball between the Georgetown Hoyas and China's Bayi Rockets turned real ugly real fast as a full scale riot erupted on the court:

A woman sitting in the Georgetown fan section directly behind the bench implored Chinese police to try to calm the situation, saying someone was going to get hurt. The Chinese police had been watching the tensions escalate to the point of physical confrontations but made no attempts to break up any of the fights taking place on the court.

Well, you know what we always say... Don't go to foreign countries.

Kansas/VCU 2nd half analysis

Kansas/VCU 1st half analysis

Yup. That just about sums it up.

Eight is never enough

Virginia Commonwealth 72 - Florida State 71 Overtime

This is what it's all about. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the contest with Florida tying it at the end of regulation. Then with 7 seconds left in overtime VCU hits an EASY layup to move ahead 72 to 71. There were still 7 seconds on the clock and Florida State's ball but the Rams Jamie Skeen blocked any chance the Seminoles had to win the game.

If there were ANY lingering doubts about VCU belonging in the tournament (not likely at this point but still) they have now been erased with authority. The Rams have proven that they can blow out opponents or grind out wins. Borrowing from an old joke about VCU they didn't belong in the field of 64. They belonged in the Elite Eight, although some are saying they will be a sacrificial lamb lame for Kansas. And no matter what coach Shaka Smart is a wanted man after this is all said and done.

Will they have Honor Code police?

While everyone else is celebrating BYU's annihilation of Gonzaga and their trip to the Sweet Sixteen we want to talk about an under the radar story. Will Brigham Young be alright in New Orleans? We're serious! In a city where sex and booze are beyond pervasive how can these fresh faced, slightly naïve kids survive? Hey, one of their comrades went down already because of something most folks in the Big East feel is mandatory.

We're not the only ones who are concerned with our Mormon friends venture into "Sin City of the East". We can only hope Coach Rose has an early bed check for the Cougars. Like 5 pm.

The Kent State/Akron melee

Akron won the MAC Conference final on some crazy defense in overtime. Apparently Kent State didn't approve of the way the Zips were celebrating. And then all hell broke loose.

Heartbreaking loss by the Golden Flashes marred by misplaced emotions. These teams really hate each other.

So BYU, New Mexico and SDSU walk into a bar...

Hey, what happens when a team that swept you gets swept by a team you swept?

Conference Armageddon.

A finger lickin' good game

Louisville 62 - Pitt 59 OT

So yeah yeah the Panthers lost against the Cardinals how will this affect Pitt's bid for a #1 seed in the tournament blah blah. The real story here was in the final seconds of the game. Score 60 to 57 in overtime the Cardinals stole the ball from Pitt and drove the length of the court ending with a slam dunk making it 62 to 57. Thunderous applause erupted from the Yum Center. A Louisville male cheerleader who mistakenly thought the game was over ran out onto the court, grabbed the basketball and threw it up into the air.

Only there was 1.5 seconds left on the clock. Louisville was assessed a technical for the cheerleader stunt. Now the CBS cameras were trained on that cheerleader for 10 minutes while the referees were assessing the technical. The announcers (including Gus Johnson) were saying "if Pitt wins this game because of what that cheerleader did he is in trouble!". The look on his face was priceless. Clearly uncomfortable but trying to be cool about it. Pitt shot two free throws making the score 62 to 59. They got the ball but alas was unable to score ending the game.

That was classic. Go Louisville.

UPDATE: Video of the whole sordid affair heyah.

Almost only counts in...

We have to hand it to Penn State. Beating the 18th and 22nd ranked teams in the country is impressive. Then they go up to #1 ranked Ohio State and lose 66 to 69 on a last second 3 point shot by Buckeyes forward Jared Sullinger. Last night they go into 13th ranked Purdue and once again lose on a last second shot by Boilermaker forward JaJuan Johnson, 62 to 63.

If effort counted the Nittany Lions would be ranked 25th in the country!

But it doesn't.

Sad.

History (repeats itself)

Florida State 66 - Duke not so much

Well, that's all we have to say about that.

We're halfway there...

Hit it, Natalie...

(San Diego State has) all five starters returning from a 25-9 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament as well as the addition of a well-regarded group of freshmen and transfers. Already, SDSU has been included in several preseason Top 25 rankings. The university’s media relations department is calling it "the most anticipated season in Aztec basketball history."
- Sign On San Diego

From mainstream pundits like Katz and Vitale to bloggers like Collegehoops, almost everyone has the Aztecs ranked as one of the top 25 teams in the country. Even stalwarts such as the Associated Press Content has SDSU ranked at least a tad bit outside the top 25.

With their first ever national network prime time TV game on February 26th, 2011 these are heady days for the Aztecs.

We here at M2M have a new lease on life and a new mantra; We will not take failure. Not this time. Fuck you, failure.

We will also have a new addition to the M2M family. That's right, baby M2M. He should be screaming his way from Mrs. M2M's insides around mid December. Just in time for... SDSU vs. Wichita State? Yikes. Sorry kid.

Phil Knight, Nike and well heeled Ducks

Reportedly the University of Oregon wants to offer Michigan State coach Tom Izzo a contract worth somewhere north of $32 million dollars over multiple years to become their next basketball coach.

Yes, Tom Izzo.

Heck, why not Mike Krzyzewski? Jim Calhoun? Roy Williams?

How freaking ridiculous is this? Izzo is no John Calipari folks.

UPDATE: It is so ridiculous that coach Izzo had to take time out of preparing his team against Butler in the Final Four to deny being interested.

Brackets have been busted!

The Earth has shaken. Goliath has been slain. Northern 'fucken' Iowa has beaten Kansas 69 to 67.

Thank goodness we pick Ohio State.

Games watched last night

Various championship games. Various tickets punched. This shit is bananas.

Pop quiz, hot shot

If you're Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody and some punk foolishly takes you down Greco-Roman style, what do you do?

What do you do...?

Welcome to basket. Balls.

Mutiny

Can't believe this skipped by us but Dartmouth coach Terry Dunn resigned on Friday.

"So?" you say. "Big whoop". "Ivy League, who cares" right?

Well, normally we would agree but in this case it was the reason why he resigned:

Dartmouth men's basketball coach Terry Dunn was forced to resign after his entire team threatened to boycott taking the court this weekend.

Each player signed a document that was taken to the administration on Friday stating they refused to play for Dunn.

I guess with a 47-103 overall record the kids were fed up.

*play Price is Right Fail horn here*

A little trigger happy

C'mon, Cornell's good but...

Kansas got taken to the limit by Cornell yesterday, finally rallying to win 71 to 66. Yes, Cornell is good. Maybe great. But after one game to say they deserve the Ivy League conference auto bid or an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament?!

What about Harvard? Yes, the Harvard with star guard Jeremy Lin. The Harvard universally predicted to get the auto bid. Cornell taking an at-large with the teams they play in and out of conference? Ummmm...

Sure.

Who's house? Gonzaga's house!

Saved by zero

Can you say trap game?

OH MY GOD! I knew you could...

The Mountaineers survive yet another close game this time against Marquette, winning 63 to 62. First Seton Hall and now this makes the folks in couch burning land very nervous right now.

UPDATE: West Vigrinia plays Purdue January 1st. The Mountaineers will lose for the reasons mentioned above.
