Glue, Stuck to my shoe

But, now I'm wishing,
for my best impression
of my best Angie Dickinson.
But, now I've got to worry
cause, boy you still look pretty
when you're putting the damage on.

Bye bye, Cardinals...

The NIT

Otherwise known as that other national tournament...

Hey Seth Greenberg, Virginia Tech is the number one overall seed in the National Invitation Tournament. Who cares about beating Duke, your 21-11 record and your Sagarin rating of 40. Welcome!

Hey Bama, turn that frown upside down. Who cares about beating Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia TWICE with your KenPom ranking of 51. Coastal Carolina awaits.

Hey Colorado, why fret over not being selected to the NCAA Tourney with beating Kansas State (twice) and also Texas. And you have an RPI of 61? Well now you've got your own bracket named after you and Texas Southern in the first round. Congrats!

Harvard, oh Harvard. What haven't you done? Beaten Colorado, you have a 23-6 record, a RPI of 35 and a Sagarin ranking of 63. How about a consolation 6th seed and Oklahoma State in your first game?

If you can make it there you can make it anywhere. Good luck!

Oh just shoot us already

After the emotional high of Wednesday we were "treated" to the following last night:

Notre Dame 89 - Cincinnati 51
Texas 74 - Oklahoma 54
Oregon 76 - UCLA 59
USC 70 - Cal 56
Texas A&M 86 - Missouri 71
Louisville 81 - Marquette 56

The only game that was remotely interesting was the Kemba Walker just shot you in the base of the skull and you didn't even see it coming game against Pitt. We hope this just means that the weekend will make up for it.

Happy Friday.

Owl crash

Duquesne 78 - Temple 66

Now that was a "fuck you" statement by the Dukes. Temple has been maddeningly inconsistent. And to get caned like that at the hands of the 71st ranked team in the country is stunning to say the least. The Owls have bounced in and out of the polls all season and after this performance they might be out for good (and possibly NIT bound).

Kent Clark

Those whom are familiar with us know how much we loathe the NBA. Like really. Absolute mess of a sport with a bunch of me-first criminals. We really hope there is a lockout next year.

Anyways, imagine our surprise when we saw this site. It was like when Superman met Bizarro Superman for the first time. These folks are the exact opposite of us:

Ok. Time to join and send the hate comments.

Coaches once again beat up on cancer

Kansas 81 - Memphis 68 (Jimmy V Week)

Syracuse in the house. Anyways, Memphis guaranteed a national championship earlier this year and the Tigers did hang with Kansas tonight. For awhile. But the Jayhawks really showed their possible national championship mettle. The game broke down in one of two ways:

A) Kansas forced Memphis to take bad shots
B) Kansas simply took the ball away from Memphis whenever they attempted to drive down the court

If we were a team in the Big 12 we would be really afraid to play the Jayhawks right now.

Iowa 51 - Northern Iowa 39

Well, there was that. If you're thinking this was a defensive game it wasn't. It was just a poor shooting, poor rebounding, poor everything game. Like two porcupines fucking. Iowa won only because Northern Iowa was that much worse. And to think only 9 months ago the Panthers were celebrating their Sweet 16.

Public Enemy No. 1

The conversation started like this -

Steven: "So what do you think about Larry Drew?"
Gabby: "The UNC guard? I dunno, hasn't been a good start to his season so far."
Steven: "People really hate him."
Gabby: "People hate that whole team right now. North Carolina fans are PETRIFIED of a repeat of last year."
Steven: "No. People are starting to blame him for the Tar Heels bad start."

So we looked. And boy howdy it was not a joke. He has a fan page on Fabebook. Dedicated to showing how horrible of a player he is. There is a petition for a Bench Larry Drew website. He is constantly being ridiculed in the press. In fact the most complementary thing we saw was "between the lines" questioning of whether or not he deserves a scholarship.

Go down and say no more!

The team comparison stats don't look so hot either. So the question is why does coach Roy Williams still play him?

It never rains in Southern California

"We're going to try to show that we can play with them."
- Tyler Honeycutt, UCLA forward

Do you know who THEY are? They are the University of Southern California. Stop laughing! Remember this? Yup, the last time the Bruins played the Trojans, USC frog stomped them by 21 points. And now UCLA wants payback. Payback from a team who has removed themselves from tournament play. Payback from a team who can't even nail down recruits right now.

Yeah, good luck today we guess. Funny if they beat you again...

San Francisco Days

Quick, who's the best team in the Pac-10?

Bueller?

We don't blame you. The Pacific 10 conference is a joke right now. Unfortunately the pollsters aren't laughing. AP voters decided they'd had enough this week, snubbing the Pac-10 for the first time since late February 1987:

"(The conference is) turning into an Abbott and Costello skit of double entendre, exploding cigars and backside falls down staircases."

Catch it! And Happy Friday.

Tar Heels: Best school in the nation

Listen to the man, North Carolina. The pollsters will...

Best line: "Y'all got the Rodney King beat out of you!"

So wear your baby blue paper bags over your heads UNC fans. You've earned it!

He's blowing this popsicle stand

Seth Curry has had with with the weak assed Big South. He needs to be playing with men, not boys.

Seth Curry, the high-scoring younger brother of Davidson star Stephen Curry, says he is transferring out of Liberty to seek a higher level of competition.

He said the decision "is based on my desire to develop as an athlete to the fullest of my potential and take advantage of new opportunities that may be available to me in a higher rated conference."

So fuck you Presbyterian, Coastal Carolina and High Point. You can suck on this grown man's shooting arm.

Liberty coach Ritchie McKay said he understands and does not fault him for seeking to play against a higher level of competition.

Geez, this guy just said you and your conference are for little girls and you just take it, McKay?

We'll be mailing you one of our wife's dresses. You'd look good in it.

USC/MSU: A bloody good time had by all

We admit that we had a little hatred in our hearts for Southern Cal taking SDSU's bid to get into the dance. And yes, we also realize that the Aztecs had no business being in the Tournament in the first place. But still, we can embrace hate.

We are all Spartans today though.

This. Is. Spar... Ok, we won't do it.

Mountain Worst

It takes ream men to admit when they were wrong. The Mountain West had no business being in the NCAA Tournament. Utah and BYU bounced on their asses in the first round. Evicted from their hotel rooms. Can you believe at one point people were predicting the MWC would have four teams in March Madness? We're glad that didn't happen. Four times the failure. Meanwhile, SDSU seems to be doing fine in the Not Invited Tournament. Maybe that is the talent level we are up to as a conference. We're just saying.

Damn. Didn't even put up a fight.

Rocky Bottom, Tennessee

Since Gabby is trapped with work, I'll add to the Picture Pages he's been doing for March Madness. Love, Charles.

Born to lose, I've lived my life in vain
Every dream has only brought me pain
All my life I've always been so blue
Born to lose and now I'm losing you.
- Ted Daffan, Born to Lose

And so goes the dreams of Bruce Pearl and his Volunteers as they get evicted from their hotel rooms today.

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Thanks for playing

"And it's too late, baby, now it's too late
Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died
And I can't hide and I just can't fake it"

- Carole King, It's Too Late

BYU out.

"Will the Cougars ever win one? The question isn't as ridiculous as it seems: Not anymore.

They've lost seven straight first-round games, eight straight tournament games."

Who next? Seriously.

Washington State just wants to go home

March Madness nor the Pac-10 Conference Tournament is on the mind of WSU coach Tony Bennett. Hell, getting to 3rd or 4th place in the conference isn't even a goal at this point.

It seems that Bennett and the Cougars would rather sneak out and have blueberry almond martinis than focus on post conference play. When pressed on if he was going to even compete for the rest of the season, Bennett talks about WSU's resume thus far:

"If it's good enough to get consideration for postseason play, so be it. If not, I still want the quality of play to be there."

If not, oh well. That is the sound of a man defeated. They are only 12-11, 4-7 Pac-10. Yes, we admit that is pretty dire. But still, don't freakin' give up!

Sheez...

What kind of f*ckery is this?

So Mark Gottfried gets up and quits on Alabama in the middle of the season...

Nothing really ticks us off more than a coach just leaving his kids in the middle of a campaign. It doesn't freakin' matter if it was a losing campaign, we were always taught to finish what we started. He has basically told his players if the going gets rough, just walk and sip some blueberry almond martinis on the beach somewhere.

So good luck Crimson Tide. Try to get some motivation to finish respectably out of that.
