ESPN Releases College Basketball Schedule

Oh yes, we are getting closer and closer to the start of college hoops, citizens. Behold the power of the 2011-2012 TV schedule!

The one thing we immediately zoomed in on was this...

Baylor is returning some strong ballers (Scott Drew, Quincy Miller). And don't forget Perry Jones who easily compares to Kawhi Leonard. This will be a "show me" game for all the doubters who think the Aztecs will fall off this season.

We're one of them.

So in 30 days it'll be time to buckle up. Also, that is when we will start posting on a more regular basis. But in the meantime, who else is excited about the Alabama/LSU football game on November 5th?

Poll positioning

So the always amusing Gary Parrish is talking about how all these top 10 losses would (or should) affect the AP/Coaches poll this week and we came across this...

Now we appreciate it. Not saying there are a few of us here who aren't thinking about it. But look guys, if you were to think about all those teams ranked above the Aztecs (Duke, Ohio State, Kansas, Pittsburgh and Texas) can you truly say the following: "SDSU would beat any of those teams if they played them in San Diego."

We can't. We can't even say right now that we could beat BYU this Saturday. And that's all it comes down to. If Team A is ranked above Team B then it is assumed that Team A would beat Team B. To be honest there are a few teams ranked below us that could beat us at home.

It's about managing expectations and not getting caught in the whirlwind of excitement. Just be cool people. Five days and counting.

Jimmer Fredette owns the night

BYU 71 - SDSU 58

Somewhere Spenser is laughing. So first, to all the Mormons out there. Chanting overrated to the opposing team actually insults your team. Your basically saying that the team wasn't good enough for that ranking and you beat a not so good team.

Anyways, we know that's a pot-kettle thing. Fredette was Fredette, torching us for 43+ points. And our problems came back to haunt us: poor 3 point shooting, missed shots in the paint. We knew that once the crowd got behind the Cougars when they made a run it could be over. Kawhi Leonard was fantastic as usual, but we needed near perfect performances by Gay and White. 20 and 1 is not so bad. Come Monday we'll probably be ranked #15 which isn't so bad either.

So congrats BYU. For one night we were the center of the college basketball universe. See you Feb 26 and in the tournament (MWC and NCAA).

Know your enemy

Introducing the Brigham Young University Cougars...

Attack of the clones!

The one and only key to this game?

Stopping Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette, Jimmer Fredette

We have no answer. We will never have an answer. As good as D.J. Gay, Billy White and Kawhi Leonard are they do not come close. If all three brought their 'A' games and James Rahon was shooting lights out from 3 point land then maybe. If this game was at home we would say it will be a close one but we would lose. But this being at the Marriott Center we are going to get destroyed.

Yes, we are Aztec fans and alumni. But we are also realists. Give us any shred of statistical proof that we will be victorious. If we are wrong then great. We are still a great team but we know our limits. Wonder what Vegas has for the line on this game?

Go Aztecs anyway.

The 2010 M2M College Hoops Preview: In Pictures

"Surely, I have made my meaning plain. I mean to avenge myself upon you, Admiral. I deprived your ship of power, and when I swing around, I mean to deprive you of your life."

Gonzaga: This is personal. We play you tomorrow. We need a signature win. You can give us that. So yes, we would like to be that Bulldog in the picture. And no, we don't mean for pleasurable reasons. Come Wednesday we'll love you again.

We're halfway there...

Hit it, Natalie...

(San Diego State has) all five starters returning from a 25-9 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament as well as the addition of a well-regarded group of freshmen and transfers. Already, SDSU has been included in several preseason Top 25 rankings. The university’s media relations department is calling it "the most anticipated season in Aztec basketball history."
- Sign On San Diego

From mainstream pundits like Katz and Vitale to bloggers like Collegehoops, almost everyone has the Aztecs ranked as one of the top 25 teams in the country. Even stalwarts such as the Associated Press Content has SDSU ranked at least a tad bit outside the top 25.

With their first ever national network prime time TV game on February 26th, 2011 these are heady days for the Aztecs.

We here at M2M have a new lease on life and a new mantra; We will not take failure. Not this time. Fuck you, failure.

We will also have a new addition to the M2M family. That's right, baby M2M. He should be screaming his way from Mrs. M2M's insides around mid December. Just in time for... SDSU vs. Wichita State? Yikes. Sorry kid.

There's no such thing as plagiarism on the Internets

So the whole Duke-UNC countdown on CBS Sports has made the rounds including posts about the ridiculousness of it here and here. But who knew the latter post about it would lead to the following exchange?

Are we being defended by a loyal reader? Are we being complimented on our quickness in delivering a scoop? Neither, we're not that good. But it was still amusing for us to read.

Are the Aztecs playing ASU next? Not quite, we gotta get past the Tritons first. We play the Blogpoll's 15th ranked Sun Devils on November 18th. First loss here we come! But 2009 is looking good though with our top 25 ranked recruiting class.

Can those kids play now?

Hot off the press

The 2008 - 2009 basketball schedule of the #5 party school as voted by Playboy magazine...

Thoughts -

Games that fall under the "definite" loss category: at Arizona, at Utah, at BYU.
Games that fall under the "definitely maybe" loss category: at UNLV, St. Mary's, at Northern Colorado
Games that fall under the "who knows" win/loss category: Arizona State, at Air Force, UCSB
Games that fall under the "definitely maybe" win category: Point Loma, UCSD, Fresno State, USD
Games that fall under the "definite" win category: CSU Northridge, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Wyoming, New Mexico, TCU, Colorado State

All other games we really didn't think about. I guess you can put the ones we didn't talk about under the "who knows" category for now. More detailed analysis once the season starts.

Blasphemous analysis

Came across this article about San Diego State's basketball team from the SD Union-Tribune. Led me to have a couple of thoughts. Walk with me, will ya?

Contrary to popular belief, Chicken Little has not secured a courtside seat at San Diego State's Cox Arena. There are no pieces of the sky to flee; there is no perceptible panic in the streets. Brandon Heath and Mohamed Abukar have left the building. Life goes on.

I'm firmly in the Chicken Little camp (without courtside seat). I mean shit, we lose the 4 players that got us to the NCAA and NIT tournaments and we are NOT suppose to worry? Sorry, I can't hop on board that President Bush mentality of going shopping to support our "war on terror". I feel like a proud alumnus by being concerned!

"We need to go out... and keep Coach (Steve) Fisher happy."
- Lorrenzo Wade

Fuck Fisher, keep US happy!!! In the end, WE hold the power over the coach's job!

San Diego State's men's basketball team, though not unarmed, opens practice Friday lacking a substantial amount of firepower from 2006-07...

That just says it all, don't it?

"It's been a long two years," (Marquette transfer Ryan) Amoroso said. "At this point, I just can't wait to get after it..."

Great. Our highly touted transfer has been benchwarming for 730 days. I'll be right back. Gotta book those first round tixs right now...

From the San Diego blogosphere comes two comments:

"Their non-conference schedule is so weak it's almost a joke. That is likely going to hurt them in conference."

"Are Arizona and Cal road games considered weak? I agree with Navy and Sam Houston but the Pac-10's should help the RPI."

I agree with the second comment (although there is some truth in the first). I even said as much. But after reading the article and really thinking about what we have that can stack up against Cal, Arizona or even BYU....

(pause)

I'm going to my happy cave I'm going to my happy cave I'm going to my happy cave...

With fingers crossed and breath held, GO AZTECS!

Nov. 11 at Fresno State 4 p.m. PT TBD
Nov. 17 UC San Diego 7 p.m. PT TBD
Nov. 19 at San Diego 7 p.m. PT TBD
Nov. 24 at California TBD TBD
Nov. 28 at Loyola Marymount TBD TBD
Dec. 1 Western Michigan 7 p.m. PT TBD
Dec. 4 UC Riverside 7 p.m. PT TBD
Dec. 8 vs. Saint Mary's Noon PT TBD

Dec. 22 at Arizona TBD TBD
Dec. 28 Sam Houston State 8 p.m. PT The Mtn.
Jan. 9 Northern Colorado 7 p.m. PT TBD

The full schedule can be found here.

Now looking at this I can point out 4 must wins (Cal, Loyola, Saint Mary's and Arizona). Arizona for obvious reasons, Cal and Loyola because of quality RPI wins and Saint Mary's because of the Wooden Classic. I mean every game is a must win, but those four I feel are really important.

Which leads me to my yearly caveat about San Diego State -

"I realize they will never be a powerhouse in my lifetime. I realize they will never make it to the top 25 in my lifetime. All I want is for my Aztecs to make it to the first round of March Madness. That is all I ask, that is all I want. To see my school on national TV in March while drunk and screaming at either a) home, b) a bar, or both is my yearly dream. In God I pray, Amen."

Hurry up Midnight Madness!!!!

"The fact that we have been selected to be on national television five times is an indication of how others feel about San Diego State basketball," (SDSU Head Coach Steve) Fisher said. "We are very pleased the entire country will be able to see Aztec Basketball."

Yeah, ummmm.... Right... I live in LA with a pretty good selection of channels on basic and cable. And I don't have The Mtn. (yes, I am pronouncing it THE MMMTNNN). Or VERSUS. Or CSTV. So how in the SAM HELL can he say we have NATIONAL TV EXPOSURE?!?!?!

That non-conference schedule better be way more national than that shit...
