Wolfer of the night

The University of Arizona Wildcats versus the North Carolina State Wolfpack

Someone had to win. These are two teams that normally would be shoo-ins for March Madness (ok, maybe not NC State) but now are fighting for their lives in December. Oi vey we watched this game but really have nothing to say about it. Good night.

Of predictions and sarcasm in Hawaii

Well, we know the Maui Invitational lacks star power this year... And this has led some coaches to be a little ornery.

When asked about the overall weakness of the teams participating this year Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan had a few snark words:

"You are trying to tell me we are not ranked? Or Arizona isn't ranked?" he asked. "I didn't know that."

Ohhhh, burn baby. This has also led some other coaches to have dilutions of grandeur. When asked the same question Maryland coach Gary Williams redefined being optimistic:

"I think there will be three or four teams out of here that'll be in the top 25 at the end of the year."

Colorado, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Chaminade, Maryland, Arizona and Wisconsin... Really?

Living on a prayer

USC player praying on the bench before their win against Arizona State, that probably knocked SDSU out of the NCAA Tournament. So goes this crazy game we call college basketball. And we were happy for awhile.

Warning, there is no vocal sound to this but for some
reason there is static feedback. Don't have your
speakers at 10.

Pennell gets scalped beard-wise

Arizona coach Russ Pennell said he would not shave unless the Wildcats lost.

Arizona State responded "You better shave that shit, homie."

It looks like Arizona interim basketball coach Russ Pennell will get rid of his facial hair, which has been a goatee for the past two weeks after he had a short-cut beard the first week.

Pennell had decided to grow facial hair and some of his players followed along, deciding not to get a shave until UA lost.

Sunday was that day as Arizona fell 70-68 at Arizona State.

Much better, coach

Yeah, we're here

Finished watching the 30 second mental breakdown of the Villanova / Louisville contest.

We caught something on the Duke / Florida State game but are having MAJOR trouble downloading it. So frustrating. We might just go and buy a better video camera.

Be back later on...

P.S. Watching the OSU/Zona snorefest currently.

We suck

Are you kidding me?! Are we so terrible that opposing teams make bets against us before games??

University of Arizona sophomore forward Jamelle Horne was asked at the press conference if Wednesday’s victory over San Diego State carried any special meaning for him.

"You know, we even had a little wager on the game. So I’ll be going out to dinner, and my dinner will be paid for," Horne said.

Fuck me! Fisher, you better do something about this shit or else we are gonna be the laughing stock of the college basketball world just like our football team is.

*sigh* In other news...

Bettie Page dead? *double sigh* This has turned out to be a sad day indeed. We usually end posts on Friday with "Happy Friday" but that seems inappropriate today.

Tempting Fate?

We actually dated a girl named Fate decades ago. The name was very appropriate for the relationship. Crazy gal. Lolz!

Anyways, so would a San Diego State win against Arizona count as a "signature" win tonight? We think not. They are not ranked, losing their best players and the program is in complete chaos.

Did we also mention Lute Olson is no longer the coach? I think we have previously...

The only thing Arizona has at this point is Über forward Pan Chase Budinger. And that will be enough to beat us unless State can play a near flawless game.

Post Script: Btw, would we be crazy enough to post a picture of an ex-girlfriend mentioned above on this blog for the scrutiny of all the internet to see? Yes. We. Would. We have no shame. Of course if you hear about some basketball blogger in LA found dead, it was her husband (or Mrs. March To Madness) that did it!

Lute Olson is a spaz

Well, lets see here...

First the Arizona head coach quits on his team to get a divorce. Then he fires his interim coach for failing to live up to his expectations while he is on leave getting a divorce. Then he comes back with a soon to be NEW wife.

Now he quits on the Wildcats again...

Arizona basketball players filed out of their new practice facility Thursday night with a look of bewilderment.

Their coach, Lute Olson, had just announced his retirement while they were in practice — less than a month before their first regular-season game.

Sakes alive these kids deserved better than this guy. Can you sense the W - T - F in their words?

"I don't know (anything)," forward-center Jordan Hill said before UA began practice.

"I haven't played for him, so I can't talk about him," said sophomore Jamelle Horne, who played under interim coach Kevin O'Neill last season. "But I still don't know what's going on."

"I hope he's all right," said David Bagga, a UA senior walk- on. "I'm still kind of lost with what's going on. I hope he is OK..."

Now the parents!

(Freshman Jeff) Withey's mom, Debbie, said she was a bit upset she had to hear the news of Olson's resignation...

"I just got done crying to my husband," she said Thursday. "I feel totally stupid that (being a top 30 recruit) that we stuck it out. And we're the stupid ones. We listened to people."

Added the mother: "I felt betrayed..."

Lute, you'll burn in hell for this.

That's right baby...

UPDATE: Olson had a stroke, so he stepped down. Lo siento, Lute.

In other less dramatic news, Ohio U forward Maurice Pearson has been suspended for shooting sorority chicks on campus with an Airsoft gun. We'll just leave that with no comment. Happy Friday.

Lute Olson is the MAN

Hey, did ya know Lute's got a new gal?!

Well, that was the first thing that came up when I googled Kelly Pugnea.

(HT: Arizona Daily Star)

Ok, this is her. Kinda looks the same though.

Maybe now the Silver Fox can get back to the business of guiding the Wildcats to another March Madness meltdown.

Happy Friday

From Zona forward Pan Chase Budinger...

Wish you were here.

How much do you hate stop signs?

Yeah, they slow you down. They might make you late. They might even get you a ticket if you perform the California (aka "rolling") stop in front of a cop.

But would you shot them? Do you have those kind of brass balls to take out your aggression out against them like that?

Well, FSU forward Ryan Reid does.

TALLAHASSEE - Florida State basketball Coach Leonard Hamilton suspended forward Ryan Reid after Tallahassee police on Saturday night cited the junior for shooting a BB gun at a stop sign and at a building near FSU's campus.

According to police, Reid and another individual damaged a stop sign and cracked three windows with shots from a BB gun.

It is simple really. He does not want to stop. He can't be stopped. Even during the off-season. He's the Juggernaut, bitch.

Do you know who he is?

Hip hip hooray! Zona coach Lute Olson is finally rid of his bitch Republican wife, Christine! Just kidding about the bitch Republican part. But if you read the article a certain way, doesn't that sound like what they are implying?

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson and his second wife, Christine Olson, have reached a divorce settlement, a court spokesman said Thursday.

In a statement released through a Phoenix spokesman, Christine Olson said she is very saddened to find herself at the end of a chapter in her life.

"I still care deeply for Lute and am at a loss to explain the path that brought us here (emphasis ours)," she said.

Christine Olson is chief executive of an oil and gas drilling company and a Republican national committeewoman from Pennsylvania.

Now what does the fact that she is a GOP committeewoman have to do with anything? Unless that is what drove Lute to flee.

I'm free, to do what I want. Like make this fist! Christine would never let me do that.

Five to NONE

We were betting online that Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts to bail Memphis for the stupid NBA. Memphis center Joey Dorsey was kinda of a stretch to take a shot at the Numskulls Brawlers and Assholes, but it wasn't unbelievable.

But now Antonio Anderson and Robert Dozier are also declaring for the NBA?!?!

The school announced Wednesday that neither Anderson and Dozier is expected to sign with an agent, leaving the possibility of returning for their senior season open.

That will leave the Tigers without it's starting lineup and no one of note is currently sitting on their bench. Anderson and Dozier have a snowball's shot at getting drafted. The draft is already neck deep in way more talented kids. The article seems to make that point as well...

With a deep pool of underclassmen entering the draft, Anderson and Dozier are unlikely to get drafted with their teammates. But Memphis coach John Calipari says Anderson and Dozier will be able to work out for teams, participate in pre-draft camp and get feedback from scouts.

We could have been contenders...

File this under "We need to dig a little deeper into what's happening here": Lute Olson kicks former interim head coach and current assistant head coach Kevin O'Neill off team.

The 51-year-old O'Neill was hired last spring, and took over as interim coach when coach Lute Olson took a personal leave of absence last season. After Olson returned in March, he announced that O'Neill would no longer be a part of his staff.

Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood said O'Neill would serve as an assistant athletic director until June 30, the end of the department's fiscal year.

"Kevin and I will sit down in mid-June to determine the next step," Livengood said in a statement on Wednesday.

Was it the 19-15 record O'Neill amassed as interim head coach? Was it the pass he made at Lute's estranged wife?

We shall see...

(That making a pass at Lute Olson's wife was fictional, btw)

Divorce American Style

Apparently estranged wife Christine Olson don't play that shit as she hauls Arizona coach Lute Olson's ass back into court for taking some of that Nike endorsement money from their joint account.

Christine Olson's attorney Kathleen McCarthy wrote in a court pleading that the coach's conduct was obviously intentional calling it outrageous.

McCarthy wrote that a preliminary injunction barred each side from transferring any joint, common or community property.

According to the most recent figure available, Olson received $500,000 from Nike in 2006-07, as part of the $714,000 in outside income he receives, according to the University of Arizona. Olson also receives a base salary of nearly $738,000 from the university.

Next up, Urbana University small forward Julian Bernard gets the grand prize for being jailed on charges of trafficking in marijuana and possession of cocaine!

An Urbana University basketball player was arrested Friday, April 18, and charged with two felonies after a narcotics investigation spanning several months, said Sheriff Brent Emmons.

"The investigation is ongoing," Emmons said Monday, noting several other suspects may be charged in the near future.

TWO felonies at the tender age of 23! You teh winner!!!

This is only my backup career choice...
