We're halfway there...

Hit it, Natalie...

(San Diego State has) all five starters returning from a 25-9 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament as well as the addition of a well-regarded group of freshmen and transfers. Already, SDSU has been included in several preseason Top 25 rankings. The university’s media relations department is calling it "the most anticipated season in Aztec basketball history."
- Sign On San Diego

From mainstream pundits like Katz and Vitale to bloggers like Collegehoops, almost everyone has the Aztecs ranked as one of the top 25 teams in the country. Even stalwarts such as the Associated Press Content has SDSU ranked at least a tad bit outside the top 25.

With their first ever national network prime time TV game on February 26th, 2011 these are heady days for the Aztecs.

We here at M2M have a new lease on life and a new mantra; We will not take failure. Not this time. Fuck you, failure.

We will also have a new addition to the M2M family. That's right, baby M2M. He should be screaming his way from Mrs. M2M's insides around mid December. Just in time for... SDSU vs. Wichita State? Yikes. Sorry kid.

This is it

You think that maybe it's over.
Only if you want it to be.
Are you gonna wait for your sign? Your miracle?
Stand up and fight!

Our viewing schedule:

SATURDAY
West Virginia at Villanova - 12 pm
Cincinnati at Georgetown - 12 pm
Maryland at Virginia - 1:30 pm

Make no mistake where you are, bubble teams. Take Kenny Loggins' sage lyrics to heart. ESPN's Bracket Busters was crap, this is the true bracket busting time at the end of the regular season and conference tourneys. So get in, sit down and hold on. 5 more days to Vegas and 8 more days until we know.

Saturday, February 27, 2010

No wise man has the power to reason away

Our viewing schedule:

SATURDAY

Now we get to the part of the season where people start grasping at straws on why their team should get into the tournament, hence the Doobie Brothers reference. We believe SDSU will totally get in based on quality wins and their RPI. Yeah.

We're talking about the NIT of course. Go Aztecs...

Weekend schedule and Blogpoll stuff

We're gonna be watching the evening games for the most part tonight starting with Florida at Tennessee. Sunday we hope to catch Virginia at former No. 1 Duke among other games.

Oh yeah, we'll watch the Super Bowl too.

Also, the weekly Blogpoll as you know it is going away. But never fear, it will be replaced by the most excellent MGoBlog college basketball Blogpoll. Actually most all the current Blogpoll participants will be moving over there as well. So now we will post our ballot here and a link to the compilation vote. While it was fun running it, we also know Brian at MGo will do a way better job.

The Blogpoll is dead. Long live the Blogpoll!

There's no such thing as plagiarism on the Internets

So the whole Duke-UNC countdown on CBS Sports has made the rounds including posts about the ridiculousness of it here and here. But who knew the latter post about it would lead to the following exchange?

Are we being defended by a loyal reader? Are we being complimented on our quickness in delivering a scoop? Neither, we're not that good. But it was still amusing for us to read.

Are the Aztecs playing ASU next? Not quite, we gotta get past the Tritons first. We play the Blogpoll's 15th ranked Sun Devils on November 18th. First loss here we come! But 2009 is looking good though with our top 25 ranked recruiting class.

Can those kids play now?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Are you ready for some (23 hours of) basketball?

ESPN, that world wide leader of sports has cooked up a doozy of an opening in college hoops land. They have decided to air 14 damn games all in a row on November 18th.

The idea, says ESPN programmer Ilan Ben-Hanan, was to create a made-for-TV "stunt" to give college basketball a sort of round-the-clock opening day...

Ben-Hanan says "by no means would we pressure anybody" to take nocturnal tip times. Rather, teams saw it as a "unique exposure opportunity. And we suggested they maybe turn the games into pajama parties."

Yeah? Well break out the milk and cookies! Among the games scheduled are UMass at Memphis, Fresno State at St. Mary's, Iowa at Kansas and Kentucky at North Carolina. Games will span from midnight (EST) on the 18th to approx. 11:30 pm on the 19th.

ESPN sage and college basketball analyst Andy Katz gave his infinite insight into all of this with the following:

None of this was easy to put together. The programming department at ESPN had to work with existing games, tournaments and some previously scheduled games had to be tweaked to come earlier in the season.

Ok. We'll file that in the No Shit department. But we're not complaining. After this dreadfully boring off-season, we would watch Rice at Troy with rapt attention.

Party at Gabby's!

Must see TV?

The SportingNews lists their "can't miss" games of the upcoming season. Let's take a look, shall we?

Arizona at Kansas on Nov. 25

Sure, I can miss that one! Kansas just has too much firepower on the perimeter. That game is gonna be lights out for the Wildcats. You heard it here first.

Gonzaga at Connecticut on Dec. 1

Only a can't miss game if both are up there in the rankings. The Zags can be inconsistent while Connecticut doesn't seem to get hot until January. Plus the Huskies fans don't seem to care that much about basketball at the moment. Can't really make a prediction on that one yet. You heard it here first.

Speaking of the Zags, here's an oldie but goodie...

North Carolina at Kentucky on Dec. 1

Kentucky, Kentucky, Kentucky. Outside of my fascination with their cheerleaders, I need to see what Billy Gillispie does. If I need to pick now, I would say UNC in a close game with that senior leadership they have. You heard it here first.

Southern California vs. Memphis on Dec. 4

What, are you kidding me? O.J. Mayo against Derrick Rose, Robert Dozier and Chance McGrady? The Tigers slap the Trojans around like the bitches they are. You heard it here first.

Georgetown at Memphis on Dec. 22.

Now THIS is a can't miss game! Finesse (Memphis) against power (Georgetown). Memphis can't afford to get into a paint battle with Roy Hibbert and Georgetown can't afford to get into a sharp shooting battle with the Tigers. I honestly can't pick this one, but I will be glued to the TV and possibly liveblogging (I found this really cool tool that allows me to do it very easily). You heard it here first.

Happy Friday to ya!
