Grand Theft Laptop

College students love them some laptops. They go all luchini if there is one nearby that they can get their grubby little hands on. Case in point:

UCLA men's basketball player Jerime Anderson has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest Tuesday evening. Anderson, a senior point guard, was arrested on campus by University Police and was charged with gankin' a laptop.

Not too good for coach Ben Howland who loses his best 3 point shooter for an undetermined period of time.

This is it (what)...

Florida players steal cars

Have you not heard of Drive Time?

University of Florida forwards Erik Murphy and Cody Larson probably enjoyed themselves during the spring football game but walking there and back sucked. So they decided to rectify that situation:

"The Gators were arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly attempting to break into a car in St. Augustine. Both were charged with felony third-degree burglary"

However, they needed someone to look for cops so they kept it all in the family by grabbing someone else from the team:

"Josh Adel, a team manager, was charged with principal to burglary after police said he served as the lookout."

Coach Donovan has suspended both indefinitely.

Our view of Larry Drew is now complete

So we said all this about him back in November. Some thought it was unjustified.

But then he quit the team.

And then he ends up calling North Carolina a mistake filled program that he had to carry.

And he does this rap style.

We totally expect him to next end up being arrested for something.

St. John's gets St. Johned

Seton Hall wins, game quickly spirals out of control

Well that was entertaining. We got a decent basketball game and a good old fashioned brawl all wrapped together. With the game in hand the players decided to start throwing each other around which resulted in technicals and ejections. Anyways, the Red Storm already played themselves into the NCAA tourney and the Pirates are, well, Not Invited.

Renardo Sidney is an idiot

So everyone has probably heard that before the Miss State/Kentucky game last week Wildcat students got a hold of Bulldog forward Sidney's phone number and left harassing messages. The gang at Rush The Court discovered that Sidney actually had his phone number for public consumption on his Facebook page prior to that. Who does that? Really?

That fat kid has issues. Which means he's perfect for the NBA.

I'm gonna ride you like a f'ing pony!

So stop us if you heard this before. Two basketball players were arrested for drinking and driving...

Yeah, run of the mill stuff. What makes these Sioux Falls University players a bit different in their shenanigans is what happened after the drinking -

Police say seniors Eric Tisby and Matt Malloy were causing trouble at a convenience store on Western Avenue, when the clerk asked them to leave.

"The two guys were causing some problems in the store, the clerk went to kick them out, and they started arguing back and forth," said Officer Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department.

"Malloy then jumped on his back and Tisby then punched him several times in the face," said Clemens.

Tisby and Malloy have been suspended indefinitely and will be sitting on the bench.

Guess you have to find some way to entertain yourself in South Dakota.

2-3 Zone don't matter if you can't score!

Syracuse 72 - USF 49

One thing we noticed is that South Florida properly defended against Syracuse's vaunted 2-3 Zone with aggressive cuts and screens. But none of that matters if you can't put the damn ball into the bucket... Oi vey.

An ode to Renardo Sidney

You're the one for me, fatty
You're the one I really, really love

And you will stay
Promise you'll say
If a teammate gets in your way
You're the one for me, fatty
You're the one I really, really love
And you will stay
Promise you'll say
If a teammate gets in your way
A-hey

All over Missi State
Some fights and some brawls
All over Missi State
Some improper benefits y'all
Oh

You're the one for me, fatty
You're the one I really, really love
And you will stay
Promise you'll say
If a teammate gets in your way
You're the one for me, fatty
You're the one I really, really love
And you will stay
Promise you'll say
If a teammate gets in your way
A-hey

Now give some love to your boy, R-Stans!

Ummm, would you like to retract that?

"I felt like we played like women. We didn't play hard at all. Every single one of us just played like women."
- USC forward Nikola Vucevic after the the Trojans lose to Arizona

Hey, some of those women (namely the UConn or Baylor female basketball teams) could literally kick yer ass.

Swan song: Michigan State

Korie Lucious is gone. Read here for a rare M2M analysis piece on the Spartans situation we wrote TWO WEEKS AGO:

Wazzu Chronic

Looks like Washington State point guard Reggie Moore is doing his best Afroman impression in the great Northwest:

Moore was arrested and cited for possession of marijuana less than 40 grams and use of drug paraphernalia. The charges each carry mandatory minimums of one day in jail and a fine that usually ranges between $250 and $500. Despite the pending charges, Moore will continue to play for the Cougars with coach Ken Bone's blessings.

Nice. I guess it's just a little pot, right?

Say what?

What? Are you fucking kidding us, Mississippi State?

Renardo Sidney was "suspended" for a whole year by the NCAA for alleged improper benefits. Meh.

Renardo Sidney was suspended for one game for a near fight during practice. Whatever.

Renardo Sidney was suspended for one week for a real fight during pre-game warmups. Blah blah.

Now MSU coach Rick Stansbury has decided to reinstate Sidney and push Elgin Bailey (the second person in the fight) to transfer even though Bailey prior to that point had been a model player. All this for a guy with "potential"? You want to win that badly, huh coach. Unbelievable.

Condemnation

Kansas State guard Jacob Pullen and forward Curtis Kelly have been suspended from the team for taking some "free" clothing.

Did we mention that Pullen and Kelly are the only starting seniors on that team?

Did we also mention that this suspension happened just hours before their game against UNLV?

Result of that suspension can be found here.

Kansas Jailhawk

So, Kansas guard Mario Little has been arrested yesterday and subsequently suspended by coach Bill Self. The folks here at the M2M Research and Development Department have come up with some handy illustrations to help explain what happened to Little:

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Matt Sarna, Little went to 1231 Ohio Street early this morning to see his girlfriend, a 22-year-old Lawrence resident who is a former KU basketball manager.

Little got into an altercation there with a 19- year-old man who's a member of the KU baseball team.

Little's girlfriend then ran to a friend's apartment at 1241 Ohio, where a gathering was taking place. Little followed his girlfriend and entered the apartment, where he allegedly pushed another 22-year-old woman in an attempt to find his girlfriend. After finding his girlfriend in an upstairs bedroom, Little allegedly battered her and pushed her into a sink.

Another man, a 24-year-old male Lawrence resident, tried to break up Little and his girlfriend and was shoved into a desk by Little. Several persons subdued Little until police arrived at about 2:45 a.m. and arrested him.

The 19-year-old man suffered minor injuries to his head, and Little's girlfriend had injuries to her neck, but neither were treated at the scene. Little was booked at 5:14 a.m. on four counts of battery, two counts of criminal damage to property and one count of criminal trespass.

Now if all this plays out it will be an incredible end to a 2nd string player. God speed.

The Rules of Engagement (off season)

Well that was fun...

Our only regret this season was not buying tickets from one of the many ticket brokers out there to go to an actual game. But such is life and more on that later. Now we start the time of year where there is no college basketball to occupy us. There isn't even so much as college football to bide our time. We call this banishment. Others have another term for it.

Yeah...

During this time of year we here at M2M switch into our off season posting rules. We are making some changes though from last year's rules:

1) Expect 1 to 2 posts a week. That will now change to whenever something interesting pops up, such as the man responsible for leading Siena to three NCAA Tournament births celebrating a little too much. Good job, Ronald!

2) Wednesday's Moment of Zen will continue. Although we would like to make this promise our wives have been completely ignored this season. We had to promise to take them out a LOT so we might not have the time to do this weekly. Save your boos until the end.

3) Off topic? Yes citizens, we will be doing a lot of off topic posts. Cooking and politics still gives us grist for the mill.

The look back / ahead
Although we didn't get tickets to any of the games we had our correspondents. Plus we organized our annual blogosphere famous trips to Vegas, this time for Selection Sunday. While that was beyond fun we really need to get our asses to actual games. Either we need to grab ourselves regular season tickets to ncaa basketball games or at the very least tickets for March Madness. Seriously, this is our goal for the 2010-2011 season. Blog brethren like Rush The Court is leaving us in the dust in this area.

So there you have it. Stay warm, keep hydrated and we will be back in force come October.

You're fired

Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez has been fired today. The Pirates went 19-14 and lost the first round of the NIT against Texas Tech.

Plus their players were punching people in the nuts.

People don't mature anymore

They stay jackasses all their lives.
- Bill Erwin

Is DeMarcus Cousins the most immature player in college basketball? You know he nearly blew Kentucky's win over Vanderbilt. We gave him a free pass on the Mississippi Sate situation. But damn. Really, Cuz?

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

P.S.

Yes, we know about College of Charleston beating UNC. And yes, we know about the sanctions against USC. We just were not all that taken by the news and hey other blogs/mainstream media are talking about it.

We'll concentrate on other things. Like why Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford feels that being arrested for drug use is no big deal on his team.

Meh.

Asians

Yes, we did that title for more page hits. Perverts. What's so special about Asian women?!

Anyways, Jeremy Lin, the star player on Harvard's squad is Asian American. And some people might not be so thrilled about that:

In the U.S., basketball stars are African-Americans first, Caucasians second, and Asians. . . somewhere far down the line. People can't look past his ethnicity. Everywhere he plays, Lin is the target of cruel taunts.

"It's everything you can imagine," (Lin) says. "Racial slurs, racial jokes, all having to do with being Asian." According to Harvard teammate Oliver McNally, another Ivy League player called him a c-word that rhymes with "ink" during a game last season. Just last week, during Harvard's 86-70 loss to Georgetown in Washington, D.C., McNally says one spectator yelled "sweet and sour pork" from the stands.

Wow dude, we don't know how you can take that night after night. We would have been getting technical after technical for the beatdowns we would give those rubes. Don't know how he does it.

"He gets pissed about it afterwards," says McNally. "I have to tip my hat to him. I don't know how I'd react. The type of dude I am, I might not be as mature as Jeremy."

Amen.
