Everybody be hating on us

So yes, Kentucky is a fine program and all. A winning one to boot, regardless of what you may think of their current coach. Well, you may think better or worse after you hear what coach Calipari said about other basketball programs -

Other basketball teams don't want to beat us. They want to BE us.

For a man with a myriad of NCAA investigation inquiries at multiple schools and the inability to keep a cohesive team for more than one year that is indeed a bold statement. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the ass.

Kevin O'Neill to be fired Monday

O'Neill was reinstated Monday because his team got picked to be in the NCAA Tournament. Prove us wrong.

Kevin O'Neill, USC's currently suspended basketball coach will be officially relieved of his duties on Monday, March 14th according to sources close to the program (which means it's true). O'Neill and his crazy ass wife got into a fight with an Arizona fan at a Marriott bar. Both O'Neill and his wife were intoxicated.

This ends the strange sad affair of a man who was fucked over by former Arizona coach Lute Olsen, stumbled into the gig at Southern California, was so-so there and now potentially unemployed. C'est la vie.

Jim Boeheim strikes again!

"I think that's all bullshit, you know. All that stuff, it's all bullshit. We could play next week and get in the same game next week and lose. We could have ten of these in a row and win them, then get in a tournament and have one and you lose it. It's all bullshit."
- The Syracuse coach responding to a question about if tough games help his team

We agree with The Crazy One by the way.

Full audio heyah. And it's bullshit, but in a good way.

You knew this was coming

SDSU coach Fisher was chastised by the Mountain West for calling shit like he saw it in the firing of former Wyoming coach Heath Schroyer:

"For a coach to be fired with six weeks to go in the season is inexcusable," Fisher said. "We talk to our players about commitment, not cutting and running, and yet when things go south a little bit, often our administrators say, 'What do we do to please our biggest donor or the perception standpoint?'"

We still felt that he should have been fired, but agree that the timing left much to be desired.

Red Reign

"Ain't no way some candy ass snake oil salesman ESPN fuckin' ANALYST fake coach can come into our house and beat us. No. NO!"
- Coach Bob Huggins, West Virginia

"Yes we can."
- Coach Steve Lavin, St. John's

St. John's 81 - West Virginia 71

Two words: field goals, son. That's how you win games. You get 61% of them and you tend to be victorious. You get 37% of them and you tend to drown your sorrows with alcohol.

Goodfella

Villanova 84 - La Salle 81

We seriously thought that La Salle coach John Giannini was going to go all Dennis Green at the press conference after that game. The Wildcats are who we thought they were. And we let them off the hook!!! If you looked at the game flow Villanova was in trouble nearly the entire contest. This wasn't a matter of the Wildcats slipping as it was a matter of Explorers being really good tonight. They might be a force to be reckoned with in the A10 conference this season.

But the season just started

Michigan State just gave coach Tom Izzo a $500,000 raise. In case you're keeping track of stuff like that he now makes $3.49 million a year.

But wait, there's more!

Instead of offering him the perk of use of a car from the university pool this publicly funded institution decided to give Izzo use of a private plane. For personal use.

And he's not giving a dime back:

So shut up.

Calipari is laughing

Yes, that is life...

Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl has been a very busy bee this off-season. Yesterday he held a press conference to finally talk about what he has been doing:

1) Lying to NCAA investigators
2) Lying to NCAA investigators with the intent to hide illegal recruiting activities he and his staff were engaged in
3) Covering up lying to NCAA investigators with the intent to hide illegal recruiting activities he and his staff were engaged in

South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson had had some choice words for Pearl in light of these finding. Ultimately the hammer came down on Pearl with a one year recruiting ban for the Vols coach. In addition he has been fined $1.5 million which works out to about a $300,000 per year salary deduction on the life of his contract with Tennessee.

Some feel Pearl should be fired. Some are wondering why the hell not? We feel his 126-46 record may have something to do with that. Good job, coach!

Coach speak

"I both felt that the time away was important for my personal and professional well-being and that I am ready to move ahead from this point at full speed."
- Jim Calhoun, UConn head coach

M2M translation:

"Are you fucking kidding me? Losing 4 out of the last 5 games?! Losing to fucking Providence?! Blaney?! That's how you fucking repay me after I leave you in charge of the team you fucking cocksucker?? I'm sick as a dog and you are forcing me to come back!"

Happy Friday, Huskies.

Welcome to the minstrel show

After a few days of thinking about it (and after many drinks) this is not as bad as we first thought. But it is still embarrassing.

Introducing Minnesota coach Tubby Smith making a fool out of himself.

Good gravy, you're a man now.

Why so SERIOUS?!

Hey coach Cronin, your Cincinnati Bearcats actually won against 10th ranked UConn. It was an albeit sloppy game but there were several times you looked like you were gonna break your players necks.

Xanax, coach. And enjoy the win.

Of predictions and sarcasm in Hawaii

Well, we know the Maui Invitational lacks star power this year... And this has led some coaches to be a little ornery.

When asked about the overall weakness of the teams participating this year Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan had a few snark words:

"You are trying to tell me we are not ranked? Or Arizona isn't ranked?" he asked. "I didn't know that."

Ohhhh, burn baby. This has also led some other coaches to have dilutions of grandeur. When asked the same question Maryland coach Gary Williams redefined being optimistic:

"I think there will be three or four teams out of here that'll be in the top 25 at the end of the year."

Colorado, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Chaminade, Maryland, Arizona and Wisconsin... Really?
