A cheater prevails

UConn 53 - Butler 41

Well this should ease the glaring light of Jim Calhoun's apparent lack of internal controls. This game was UGLY, with both teams unable to make shots. C'mon, you guys need to make shots! Anyways, finally in the second half Connecticut's Jeremy Lamb suddenly got his grove back and prevented the score from being a lot lower. Butler's Matt Howard tried to keep his team in it but none of his shots were going in (reference above). At one point we predicted the final score to be 41-40. Guess we weren't that far off. So the University of Connecticut are your 2011 NCAA Basketball champs and now we can begin the whole "Will Calhoun retire?" meme.

Some sights from the NC game...

Happy Husky fans.

Bulldog players during the final seconds of the game.

Matt Howard's parents. Sad.

Net cutting!

Oh my gawd!

Connecticut 56 - Kentucky 55

Ok, we are going to say it. Kemba Walker is a better player than Jimmer Fredette. This is simply because Walker has guided his time to the title game and without him they would have lost in either the Sweet 16 or Elite 8. BYU with Jimmer lost in the Sweet 16. There's your proof.

This game was a typical Kentucky comes out and smacks you in the mouth, Kemba Walker wills UConn back in the game with some clutch plays, Kentucky cannot make the final shot because of Walker's antics. And so the stage is set for Butler/UConn. Right now we have no clue who we think will win.

The end of the road for the Commonwealth

Butler 70 - VCU 62

We predicted this one. At first it seemed that Butler tried to play the Rams game and were failing miserably. But then the Bulldogs returned to what they know best; grinding it out and doing damage in the paint. The most amazing stat to this game was that Butler held VCU to 36% three point shooting while VCU allowed Butler to increase their 3 point shooting to 36%. Chew on that.

Bulldog coach Stevens is the Stephen Hawking of college basketball.

Butler will make you sweat

Butler 74 - Florida 71 Overtime

"I feel sick to my stomach. It hurts right now."
- Florida forward Chandler Parsons

It was the second overtime game in the past two days. And Butler proved again that they're no Cinderella. Florida and especially Parsons should be given all due credit. They played an amazing game and hit the shots they were suppose to hit, virtually overwhelming the Bulldogs at times. Butler just would not lie down and die. The Gators were such odds on favorites even the NCAA were prematurely celebrating their potential win. What is the saying about hubris?

In the end Florida became just another victim of Butler's maniacal march toward the Final Four and maybe the National Championship. But it has been a hell of a march to watch.

And the beat goes on

Arizona 93 - Duke 77

Absolut Domination. Kyrie Irving could have been at 200% and wouldn't have matter. Nothing mattered for the Blue Devils. They were totally horsewhipped at the Honda Center by the Wildcats. Once again they were stripped and laid bare for all to see. We could only assume Coach Lavin was sitting somewhere laughing his but off. Beware of Arizona you Huskies.

The mighty once unbeatable Duke is OOT.

By the time I get to Arizona

Arizona 70 - Texas 69

Similar to the Pitt/Butler game this came down to the last seconds and a foul call. With nine seconds left the Wildcats would have just tied it with a two pointer and sent the game into overtime but with a foul on Arizona's Derrick Williams the two became a three point play. This left Texas flat footed with no time left.

Game over. Don't cry. There's next year.

Hollywood Ending

San Diego State 71 - Temple 64 Double Rainbow

We are mentally exhausted. So yeah, there was a game yesterday with SDSU playing Temple. And the Aztecs were doing good for awhile...

But then we reverted back to "classic SDSU". Game tied in the final seconds and we had a chance at the game winning shot. We missed.

Overtime. After a seesaw battle the game became tied again and once again SDSU had the chance at the game winning shot. We missed.

Double overtime. This time we turned into "Aztecs 2.0" and managed to build a permanent lead for the win. So yes, San Diego State University is headed to the Sweet Sixteen in Anaheim, California. Glory Be. Like we said we are exhausted but we're still partying knowing that UConn may await us.

In Every Dream Home a Heartache

Butler's inexplicable 71 - 70 win over Pittsburgh

Ummm, yeah... First we are shocked at the Pitt loss. Boy are we going to hear Mea culpa coming from our Pitt friends on Monday. The game ended on two fouls essentially. First, on Butler's possession...

No, we are not going to do it. We can't clearly explain what happened. Just know a #1 seed went down tonight. Click on the link above for video.

Please don't send any more hate mail

West "fuckin" Virginia is out early. Again.

If you were reading our Twitter feed you would have seen us prematurely proclaiming victory for the Mountaineers. West Virginia's Joe Mazzulla and Casey Mitchell were positively on fire for most of the game... Most of the game. They seemed to have run out of steam towards the end and then Kentucky's Brandon Knight took over, eventually spuring his Wildcats on to a 71 to 63 win. He did better than what he did against Princeton. Which was ultimately bad for Huggy Bear.

Don't call it a comeback

UCLA 78 - Michigan State 76

What can we say about Michigan State? They went from this to this to OOT (Out Of Tournament). And what can we say about UCLA? The Bruins were left for dead in the middle of the season and came clawing back to a 7 seed and a win against once mighty Sparty. Michigan State did stage a final drive late in the game...

...but it wasn't enough to overcome being down by more than 20 earlier. Welcome to day two, Bruins.

Demons: Exercised

San Diego State 68 - Northern Colorado 50

Yes. The California State University, San Diego Aztecs have won their first ever NCAA Tournament game. Yes, there were still infuriating moments such as this...

But hey, a win is a win. Temple is next. We can't really offer any keys to the game as we believe Temple is extremely similar to us in all aspects (even the bad ones).

The Kent State/Akron melee

Akron won the MAC Conference final on some crazy defense in overtime. Apparently Kent State didn't approve of the way the Zips were celebrating. And then all hell broke loose.

Heartbreaking loss by the Golden Flashes marred by misplaced emotions. These teams really hate each other.

Princeton wins on last second shot

ESPN producers are so excited they interrupt their own broadcast during the UTSA/McNeese State game ...

So the Tigers are dancing. And Harvard is sullen again. Game talk heyah.

Oh just shoot us already

After the emotional high of Wednesday we were "treated" to the following last night:

Notre Dame 89 - Cincinnati 51
Texas 74 - Oklahoma 54
Oregon 76 - UCLA 59
USC 70 - Cal 56
Texas A&M 86 - Missouri 71
Louisville 81 - Marquette 56

The only game that was remotely interesting was the Kemba Walker just shot you in the base of the skull and you didn't even see it coming game against Pitt. We hope this just means that the weekend will make up for it.

Happy Friday.

Why we love the game

Northern Colorado 65 - Montana 60

On one hand you had two time defending Big Sky champ Montana Grizzlies. They've been to the dance before. They knew what to expect. They are the big boys on the block. On the other hand you had the Northern Colorado Bears (hey, it was bear on bear action). The Bears were the bottom of the barrel. Perennial laughing stock. Worst RPI in the country. Never came close to sniffing an NCAA Tournament bid.

That all changed last night. In a game that had some of us tearing up the Bears clawed and scraped their way to a lead with only 4 minutes left and would not let it go. There were Northern Colorado parents in the stands crying when they won the game. We had so many pictures that we wanted to post but we settled on the above. The Big Sky MVP and Northern Colorado hero who's shots singlehandedly lifted his team to victory, Mr. Devon Beitzel -

Welcome to March Madness, Northern Colorado. Have fun and revel in your time.

Breathe dogs, breathe

Butler saves a bid from a thief

With 10 minutes left to go in the game the Panthers were only down by 3 points and making a strong serge to take the lead. At this point we figured there were about four bubble teams including Marquette who started shitting themselves. But the Bulldogs pull it out and graciously left a tournament opening for someone else.

It's MAAC-tastic

St. Peter's 62 - Iona 57

The Peacocks are in the dance after a furious game against the Gaels. St. Peter's were ahead by 13 at times but Iona just would not quit. They mounted an amazing comeback with less that a minute left that came up a bit short.

If you would like to see one fan's slightly disturbing tweet on this game click here. What. The. Fuck. Is the profile pic about.

The ony thing better than OT is 2 OTs

Lafayette 73 - American 71 Double Rainbow

Vlad has failed you. But the game was awesome. We love these lesser conference 1-bid tourneys. Those motherfuckers will die for this, they'll go for broke. In a March Madness type atmosphere the game went back and forth, with two time Patriot League champion American seeming to have the game in hand only to have Lafayette hit a critical shot to either tie or take the lead. The Leopards wanted it more.

Do you know about Coastal Carolina?

UNC Asheville 60 - Coastal Carolina 47

Well, you shouldn't because they lost to UNC Asheville. And it's official the Bulldogs are the very first team going dancing! So much for Coastal, a team everyone was buzzing about with their wins against nobodies.

But at least the students looked good for the game.

Notre Dame wins on half power

Notre Dame 70 - UConn 67

So there was this...

Just like that Irish forward Tim Abromaitis was on his own and did horribly until the final 3 minutes of the contest. He and forward Carleton Scott finally got their heads back in the game after first panicking Hansbrough's absence. We guess Notre Dame really earned that #1 seed for the BEAST tourney.
