Next, he was fired for allegedly lying to investigators? No honey baby, that was an absolute damned fact he was lying to the NCAA.
So now we wait and see what the official penalties and sanctions will be for the Vols. Just because Bruce is gone doesn't mean they are off the hook.
Is Bruce Pearl a dead mam walking? For every game they play it has the possibility to be his last, so the Volunteers in essence are fighting not for a possible NCAA championship but for Pearl's career.

Coach Bruce Pearl: "The SEC needed a team to volunteer to play at Pitt without a return game, and we were stupid enough to do it. It's what Tennessee does with scheduling. This is a balance between respect and fear. The quality of Pitt's play will scare us, but we've got to make sure we respect ourselves enough to not lose by much."
Vols guard Cam Tatum: "You go in there with your hard on knowing it will help you down the road as well as see where the team is at."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive has suspended Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl for the Volunteers' first eight conference games as punishment for violating NCAA rules and misleading investigators.
In essence this is a slap on the wrist for willfully lying to NCAA investigators. We feel former Indiana coach Sampson did LESS and was fired and practically banned from coaching. Are you kidding us? Yes, Sampson was scum and Pearl is a likable guy and winning coach. But should that matter?
File under HI-LARIOUS!: Coach Bruce Pearl's ex-wife is putting that alimony to good use. She opened up her own business in Knoxville, a hair and nail salon.

Scalpers at George Washington University are in it for love of the job, not monetary gain.
"There's no profit in it," said WG, one of the two scalpers who would not give his full name, for fear of arrest for scalping - a crime in the District. "This place almost never sells out and tickets are only 12 bucks."
"We just do this for fun," said WG, who is currently attending nursing school. "It's just something to do. Sometimes we'll do this and then go to the games."
If only we all had jobs like that. But some say that because the Colonials currently suck, scalping tickets to sucky games just doesn't bring them in anymore.
Ron Schneeberger, a frequenter of men's basketball games, said there used to be a lot more scalpers in past years.
"When we had winning seasons and many people came to the games, we used to see many scalpers out here," Schneeberger said. "But this year I've only seen two or three at games."
Next up, pissed off raccoon dislocates Pat Summitt's shoulder.
I momentarily lost it," Summitt told WBIR-TV in Knoxville. "The raccoon was about to attack... fortunately nothing happened but a dislocated shoulder..."
"When I realized what could have happened, it almost brought me to tears," she said. "It wasn't very smart on my part."

1) He is testing the waters for an eventual career in broadcasting
2) Being a freshly divorced bachelor he now has more free time
3) Trying out new angle to get in Pat Summitt's pants

Hey, just because Tennessee's Duke Crews is indefinitely suspended don't count the Vols out yet.

Anyhoo, he goes on to talk about how transfers Tyler Smith and J.P. Prince (cousin of Tayshaun Prince) will fill Crews' void. Smith was a power at Iowa. I think these two will give Tennessee a frontcourt boost, but I still think there will be a drop off in production by the absence of Crews. SEC Hoops feels that Crews will be back by the first game.
Vegas odds on the 2008 National Championship are out and UNC has the worst odds of +500 with a gang load of teams getting the best odds of +20000 (including SDSU of course). Maybe the blogpoll should be based on Vegas odds...
