I Before We and Drunk Cooking

So two things came to mind today while we wait for this horrible, horrible college basketball off season to end. The first is a question that comes up again and again on the blog and our Twitter Feed:

Why do you use the term "we" all the time? Isn't it just you writing? Are you schizophrenic?

Well, no. We think. Actually it goes like this; Yes, I (Gabby) write about 95% of the stuff on the Blog and Twitter. But I have friends who help me. So if I am using the term "we" that means that whatever it is that I am saying was a collaborative thought or expression. If I am using the word "I" that means it was solely me who came up with whatever crap that I am spewing.

The second thing was an overdue introduction to our audience on someone who we have been watching and laughing ourselves silly over:

This is Hannah Hart, proprietor of My Drunk Kitchen. She adeptly combines two things I love to do, cooking and drankin' to hilarious effect. Before Baby M2M was born I use to do this a lot. But Baby M2M does not allow me the quiet time necessary to nurse a hangover so I stopped. Plus Mrs. M2M says that it would be good for my health to stop too. But Hannah has taken up the slack for me. So check her out, citizens. You'll be glad you did.

Also, I do have to say that since I stopped drankin' and cooking my meals have been a whole lot more tasty. I guess that is another benefit of sorts.

Carry on.

History repeats itself

M2M: Iowa guard Anthony Tucker was arrested for being drunk.
You: Yeah, we know. He got fucked up last December behind some bar.
M2M: Ummmm, yeah... But we are talking about last Sunday.
You: WHAT?! Tucker got arrested again? For what?
M2M: Well, he was drunk of course. Took a cab which was very responsible of him. But he didn't want to pay the fare. So he ended up behind bars. Again.

"Anthony will be suspended for an indefinite amount of time," Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said in a statement. "First and foremost, I wanted to make sure Anthony is OK from a physical safety standpoint, and he is. Certainly, I am disappointed because this is not the first legal incident involving alcohol."

Thank you, Doug

(HT: Slater)

We haven't gone away. Yes, the postings have been a little sparse as of late but we have a good reason. Our main contributor (Gabby) has moved from Los Angeles to...

...well, to here. Gabby says it was job related but we think otherwise. No matter, there can be some pros and cons to this -

Pros:
3 hour drive max to any ACC game
Lower cost of living means more money to spend on booze
Cleaner (air, people, etc.)
BBQ country

Cons:
Booze is controlled by the gubmit
Nothing to do if no basketball or football on
No more Takami Downtown
It's still the south (thinking of Deliverance)

At least Gabby excapes the dominance of USC/UCLA. Cheers and 100 cocktails to you as EDSBS would say. We will begin our 1 or more postings a day on the cusp of the 2009-2010 basketball season. In the meantime our summer posting schedule will be limited until Gabby gets settled.

The Rules of Engagement

We've mentioned all this in bits and pieces throughout this blog, but we thought maybe it would be a perfect time to distill it down in one bite sized post. We call these our off-season posting rules.

Now that college hoops is done, we switch over to our three other loves in life to help occupy us in the void (in no particular order):

A) College football
B) Politics
C) Cooking

So expect a healthy dose of our adventures in the kitchen, why Florida QB Tim Tebow is not a man but in fact a machine, and why we think Present Obama is the only hope you have left, citizen.

Also, we always made a point to at least post once a day, if not more. During the off-season expect us to shift that down and post 1 to 2 times a week.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will the Moment of Zen Wednesdays continue? It's the only joy I have in my life.
Of course, meat beater. We would never give that up.

When will you stop with the off-topic crap and get back to the hoops?
Between October and November.

Does this mean you guys will NOT talk about college basketball until October?
Sure we will. If there is a breaking story or something we find interesting, you'll find it here. Like how could Kent State be so stupid as to try to recruit a guy who has previously broken commitments with Miami of Ohio, Providence, Long Beach State and Oregon State? And now it looks like he will leave the Golden Flashes for Hawaii. Good job.

What else do you guys do when there is no college hoops on?
Drink and make drinks for others to drink.

Oh no they didn't

In case you were talking to some chick at a bar instead of watching college hoops like your momma told you, Missouri's Zaire Taylor made a last second shot to beat Kansas who was previously undefeated in the Big 12. There are plenty of videos out there but we here at M2M love the fan perspective over that glossy ESPN footage:

Very Blair Witch like...

In other news, Cincinnati prepares to honor former drunk and coach Bob Huggins when West Virginia visits the Bearcats this week.

the University of Cincinnati basketball program might provide an opportunity for its fans to finally reach some closure over the departure of former head basketball coach Bob Huggins.

UC officials have plans to honor Huggins when he returns on Feb. 26 as the head coach at West Virginia.

UC officials would not reveal Monday how they plan to honor Huggins.

Maybe with some PBR?

Unnnnnnncomfortable...

Wachu talkin' about, Willis?

In case you were wondering where Oklahoma freshman guard Ray Willis was at on Saturday when they played against Colorado, looks like booze and a steering wheel was involved.

Ray Willis was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to the Tulsa World, Norman police Lt. Blake Green said Willis was taken into custody at 3:16 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Asp and Lindsey on campus. He was taken to the Cleveland County Detention Center, and later released after bond was posted.

Maybe Willis was trying to relax before the game. Colorado (1 - 7 conference, 9 - 13 overall) is a formidable opponent you know...

Razorback drankin'

Arkansas forward Brandon Moore was caught partying just a wee bit too much this weekend. He got himself arrested and suspended for the usual underage drinking and driving.

The 19-year-old Moore was stopped by a campus police officer at 1:51 a.m. after the officer noticed his vehicle crossed a double-yellow line to pass another vehicle. According to campus police records, the officer said Moore smelled of alcohol and told her he had been drinking.

Coach John Pelphrey released a statement Sunday evening about the incident: "Brandon Moore has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules."

Cheers to you, sir. Got that out of the way early in your career.

Wake up

File this under "Dad of the Year" -

Valparaiso's Logan Jones, after being freshly reinstated because of underage drinking and dope smoking reminisces about what happened after his arrest and suspension:

He thought about Dec. 13, the night he spent in jail, busted for underage drinking, a cloud of marijuana smoke having spilled out from the passenger-side window of the car Jones was driving.

"I thought it was over," Jones says. "I definitely thought it was over. I had my AAU coach start looking for other schools, junior colleges that I could get into. I thought it was over."

He thought about all the brutal and unforgiving message-board comments from supposed "fans" his dad had made Jones read online -- "good riddance" was the general theme. (emphasis ours)

Get that? Dad made him read about what he did and what people thought. Most craptacular dads would have said "oh well!," and hope there was still some NBA eligibility left with their sons to pay for their bills. But not Daddy Jones, no sir. A hip hip hooray to you. Your son will be better for this.

Now, for Indiana we just had to say "what in blue blazes is wrong with that school?" After former teammate Eric Gordon spilled the beans about the rampant drug use during coach Sampson's tenure, now the University president's kid has joined the party:

The 18-year-old son of Indiana University president Michael McRobbie was arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.

Lucian McRobbie was arrested early Sunday on two preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Nice. Bring Bob Knight back and make HIM president of the school. And what's up with the name Lucian?

What the hell is ADD

First -

Damn that Hamas/Israeli military clash! The Turks vs. Jews basketball game has been canceled. C'mon guys, can't we all just get along?

Not cool

Second -

Cal State Northridge's coach Bobby Braswell is an old school dad. When his son and two other players on his team were arrested he was asked about posting bail for his son. Response?

"Just put it this way, I fulfilled a promise that I made. I told my children a long time ago that there's responsibilities that they have."

So he let him rot in jail for three days. Nice.

Third -

Morehead State forward Maze Stallworth has been suspended indefinitely for using OPC (Other Peoples Credit cards). The thing about this is that he has been charged with a felony because he spent over $100, but the bail was posted for $500. So we're thinking that the actual amount is probably between the two, so an indefinite suspension seems excessive for one of your leading scorers.

Yeah, we usually come down hard on this stuff. But to a point. Maybe 1 month suspension while they sort it all out?

Fourth -

This marks the first weekend where we have nothing to do. No responsibilites are holding us back. We cleared it with the wives. So be prepared for weekend posts, an impromptu livebog, etc. And lots and lots of drankin'!

Happy Friday.

Ka-BOOM

And then there were none.

We were actually at a bar (Hooters) on Sunday morning where a friend of ours mentioned to a group of patrons that we write for Sports Illustrated (dot com)...

A Patron: Hey, you think North Carolina will go all the way and win the National Championship?
Us: I don't know.
Patron: I think they are going to go all the way undefeated and win the Championship.
Us: That would be amazing...
Patron's friend: (punches patron in the arm) See, I told you fool. No way they'll make it...

CBSSports.com wire reports - Rice proves to be bad for the heart once again as Boston College teaches the sin of hubris with the Tar Heels.

We guarantee two things this week in the blogpoll:

1) There will be at least three teams as a number one pick
2) Tennessee will drop out

In other news -

Fans are so outraged at the piss poor officiating in the BYU / Wake Forest game (49 fouls?) they start throwing all kinds of shit on the court.

The sellout crowd of 23,096, the second-largest in Marriott Center history, grew increasingly frustrated with the officiating and midway through the second half, after a foul was called on BYU's Jonathan Tavernari , the crowd threw some T-shirts and an empty water bottle onto the floor.

Images of Taiwan's parliament pop into our heads.

Finally, Britney Spears was the top scorer in win over Pepperdine.

Ha.

Why so secretive?

There was a lot of swirl around why Eastern Washington University coach Kirk Earlywine was not at Monday's game against Boise State. Maybe we should have paid more attention to the name earlyWINE...

EWU Men's Basketball Coach Kirk Earlywine wasn't able to attend the team's game Monday night at Boise State due to an arraignment following his arrest on suspicion of DUI early Saturday morning.

Tsk tsk coach. Set a good example for your kids.

Because they hate our freedom

Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy has been arrested this morning for punching the lights out of a Muslim cabbie.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Cincinnati newspaper says police and court records show Mississippi basketball coach Andy Kennedy was arrested early Thursday on an assault charge involving a taxi driver.

Why do we bring up the cab driver's religion? Because Kennedy was saying some pretty racist things too.

(Kennedy is) accused of attacking Mohammed Ould Jiddou and hurling racial slurs at the man, according to police and court records.

Did we mention he had more than likely been drinking too? Oh yes, citizen.

Also arrested was William Armstrong, the director of operations at Mississippi, on a charge of disorderly conduct, reports show.

Reports state Armstrong, 31, was drunk and thrown out of the Lodge Bar downtown early this morning.

After that, he and Kennedy got a cab. A report says Armstrong, taunted the driver "in which his conduct was likely to cause a violent response."

All this leads to the question "Who is going to coach the Rebels tonight?!"

The ninth-ranked Louisville Cardinal and the Ole Miss Rebels will meet this evening in Cincinnati as part of the SEC/Big East Invitational.

This is the fist I make when I drink and hate

Way to go, coach.

UPDATE: If you want to know what coach Kennedy and director of operations Armstrong were drinking that night...

How did you spend your off season?

Us? Well...

Not saying we were proud. It was just the lethal combination of SAD/BORED/BOOZE IN THE HOUSE.

The season for us starts today. Go Aztecs, beat Point Loma. Hey, we won last year, right? Are we going to regret saying that? Probably.

Badgers badgers badgers

So, it seems that Wisconsin leads the nation in binge drinking...

Makes sense. Have you seen what U of Wisconsin students do during games? Swingtown?! WTF?

Sometimes they don't even need the damn band to break out into drunken song.

Tsk tsk.

We have a winner...

Western Kentucky's assistant coach David Boyden was arrested for doing very bad things over the weekend...

According to a Bowling Green Police Department report, Boyden was pulled over at 3:53 a.m. today while being clocked at 73 mph in a 45 mph zone on Russellville Road. After initially refusing to take a sobriety test, Boyden’s blood-alcohol level as tested by Breathalyzer was 0.115. The legal limit for drivers in Kentucky is 0.08.

Along with being charged with DUI, Boyden was also cited for speeding, failure to produce an insurance card and possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle.

Wow! Give that man a cigar! Big Red would be proud.

Wait, wrong big red...

73 mph in a 45 zone while sippin' da booze? You teh winner!
