Below the number 2

Iowa guard Anthony Tucker has been suspended for the rest of the season for getting a "D" in school.

Iowa freshman basketball player Anthony Tucker was ruled academically ineligible hours before Wednesday night’s game against Wisconsin because his grade-point average did not meet Big Ten Conference and University of Iowa requirements.

Associate athletic director Fred Mims would not disclose Tucker’s first-semester grade-point average, but said conference "qualitative" guidelines call for at least a 1.65 average for freshmen to be academically eligible.

This is just wrong on so many levels. 1.65 is considered academically eligible? 1.65 is the minimum standard for the Big Ten?

1.65 is considered "passing"...

"I passed all my classes," Tucker said. "There was one class that I struggled with. It was kind of a struggle toward the end of the semester ... but I passed all my classes."

The Big Ten. A symbol of student-athlete excellence.
