WINSTON-SALEM – Wake Forest’s undefeated season came to an abrupt end Wednesday night as the Virginia Tech Hokies upset the nation’s top-ranked college basketball team 78-71 in Joel Coliseum.

The Deacons (16-1, 3-1) had ascended to the No. 1 spot in the national rankings on Monday but Division I’s last remaining unbeaten couldn’t sustain its winning streak.
