Game 2: Duke sweats, then has Curry

Duke 79 - North Carolina 73

If you were to watch the first 25 minutes of this contest you would have said the following:

"Man, North Carolina is gonna roll over Duke in their own house."

At one point North Carolina was leading by 16 points. But then Blue Devil guard Seth Curry went OFF for 15 points in a span of 10 minutes. If it wasn't for Stephen little brother we would have been looking at a rare loss for Duke at Cameron Indoor.

You know, Steph reminds us of Jimmer...

880

Why are people so concerned with Duke coach Krzyzewski and his 880 wins? He passed Dean Smith and with a handful of wins will pass Booby Knight. But who cares. Will those wins get the Blue Devils an ACC Championship? Will those wins get them another Final Four appearance?

Will those wins get Duke another National Championship?

We think not. So once again who cares. Titles are what people respect, not wins. Just ask Dan Marino.

I'm still here, motherfuckers...

Spartan coach Izzo declines NBA offer and stays at MSU for Mike Krzyzewski.

It is done

Duke is your national champs. Butler put up a good fight, but everyone knew the Blue Devils had too much horsepower.

So ok, we are now officially at the start of the off-season. We are going to take a little vacation from the blogosphere and then we will be back with our off-season rules. Don't mess with our 8-track while we are out.

P.S. We tied for second in the blogger March Madness bracket picks. Rock on.

Welcome to your destiny

Congrats, you Bulldogs. We are always suckers for the underdog story. This is it, as Michael and Kenny would say. Hey coach Huggins, Mike Krzyzewski is laughing at your 1-3-1 defense right now.

And as a side note we want to say we (the Mountain West Conference) almost had two football teams in the BCS. We had FOUR basketball teams in March Madness. Regardless of the outcome we deserve some respect. True dat.

NCAA To Strip Duke Of Its '08-'09 Losses

This just in:

DURHAM, NC—NCAA officials announced Wednesday that seven losses would be stricken from Duke's 2008-2009 season record, claiming they were forced to act after discovering evidence of dramatically meritorious behavior both on and off the court.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has decided not to appeal the NCAA's decision...

Clemson thinks they're tough

The Clemson Tigers ass rapes Duke by 27 points.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski spent most of the second half in his seat, hands over his mouth. Three times he subbed his entire squad to find a spark, but the Blue Devils never got closer than 20 points over the last 9 minutes.

And speaking of ass love, this is Sparta!!!!!!!! Congrats Tigers, you get and deserve this award.

Don't harsh on their now

Undefeated Clemson is raking in sellout crowds?

That could all change on the 17th. Or the 21st.

Oh, and here is the quote of the day:

"I don't even think it was mentioned in the newspapers here, that we were No. 2 in the polls. Fact, I know it wasn't mentioned, so I guess nobody really cares."
- Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, The News & Observer

Not true, Mike. We care. We care a lot.

Let us be clear

We get comments from people saying that we hate Duke. That we are just haters and jealous of Duke's success. How could we not rank Duke in the Blogpoll? We just don't like them because we wish our school could be like them.

Nothing could be further from the truth. We love Mike Krzyzewski's style and was praying that he wouldn't go pro when he was flirting with the LA Lakers.

We loved J.J. Redick and his swagger. We like Greg Paulus and his selflessness.

What we don't like is when people year after year give Duke a top 10 ranking and proclaim that they will be in the Elite 8 when common sense seems to show otherwise. Yes, the Blue Devils are a good team. But we think their name brand gives them more credit than what is warranted.

This article perfectly explains what we feel in a cool, rational way with actual facts and figures.

I recognize problems in all facets of their game. Specifically, the team’s dependency on making three-pointers is troubling. Even when Duke makes them at a good success rate, I am critical of the shooter’s decision to do so because it further increases the team’s tendency to rely on three-pointers.

Another problem is the level of intensity that the team brings on the defensive end, believe it or not. Though at times they are successful in creating turnovers and forcing bad shots as a result of their pressure, other times they give up valuable position around the paint, which leads to open three-point shots and easy layup opportunities for the opponent.

Ok, we are done with this subject. Just had to address the internets who said we only had blind hatred.

Go Blue Devils!

A M2M exclusive

Now with big breasted babe!

Back in February of this year we wrote an article about Mr. Jesse Haskett, a Monmouth College b-ball senior who got a little crazy after more than a few Red Bulls and vodkas, and found himself in jail after destroying a poor woman's porch. We actually got a chance recently to speak with the lad and hear his side of the story. Here it is reprinted below with our comments in bold parentheses:

Basically what happened was we had a game that Saturday against a team we should have beaten and the loss all but ended our chances at making the conference playoffs (the loss came at the hands of 4-19 Beloit College). Things did not go well for my roommate and I, who was also a member of the team. We got back to the room and started what I would call combative drinking (here's an example of what happens after you do this). We left campus to go to a local bar that we always went to, which has the greatest prices ever by the way. That is where I got into the Red Bull vodkas. I'm not sure how many I had, but the number based on the open tab I left at the bar and what other friends said they bought me is from 8-10 (geez louise, we had just one of those things and spent the rest of the night crouched in a corner screaming COACH KRZYZEWSKI IS THE MESSIAH! REPENT!). I left the bar by myself around 1:15 in the morning. I don't remember leaving, so that is the best guess made by my friends (with friends like those, who needs AA?). I had actually left the bar on my own before and made my way back to campus when I apparently decided I was done drinking. However, this night I was A) Completely hammered beyond any stretch of the imagination; I couldn't have found my ass with both hands and B) Had left my cell phone back in my room. That turned out to be a costly mistake.

I woke up Sunday morning, looked around, and thought "This is jail, I wonder what I did. (hey, we've all been there... just be thankful you were still in the U.S.)" Come to find out, I had basically trashed this lady's porch door and some screens and other crap out there. The cops picked me up at 3:30 am on a January morning. I had wandered around since about 1:15 in the Illinois winter with jeans and a short sleeve button-up on. My best guess as to why I tried getting on this porch was that it must have looked similar to my home and I figured they had locked me out for some reason. The highlight was reading the police report because they put a special line in there about how they had picked me up with no shoes on and then found them on the porch. So at least when I smash your porch, I don't track mud everywhere (nice, very funny). I spent Sunday night in the tank, and my buddies bailed me out Monday after I saw the judge. Legally I'm in the clear now as long as I don't do anymore dumb shit in the next two years. Obviously I've quit the RBV and seriously cut back on the drinking.

So there it is, not my proudest moment, but a good story to tell I suppose. It would have been much funnier though had it happened to someone else.

Thank you Jesse for your side of the story. Peace and blessings and have you tried Rockstar and vodka?

Well, isn't that nice...

Duke's coach Krzyzewski doesn't give a shit about your opinions on how many times they have not made it to the Final Four in the last half decade. He just wants to be Cyndi Lauper.

"...if (some student) doesn't go to the Final Four after their four years at Duke, then that's just too damn bad," (Coach K) added. "But our team is going to have fun..."

Hmmm, we need a metaphor on what "fun" could look like for the Blue Devils this upcoming season.

That will do nicely

Duke, the bracket killer

We didn't have Duke in as a National Champ. But we had Duke going far. They seemed to be on fire throughout the season. But they also seemed to have a late collapse. Then going in the tournament they almost get beat by Belmont, and now fall to West Fuckin Virginia.

Oh well. Not like Coach K has to worry about his job. But still. I'm not mad, I'm just shocked that I was so wrong about them.

The power of Duke

But first... Do you think Kansas State is in hell anymore?

Anyways, I've been the first one to say that the Blue Devils do great in conference but they always choke during March Madness.

I've said this so much I have even went to Vegas to prove it out.

But this season seems different. I did a little number crunching and Duke has been beating up on opponents by an average of 22 points. To me that is saying something. This is not the Duke or last year or the year before then. Something is more sinister, more angry about them.

Maybe they have been reading my posts constantly bashing them.

This article from ESPN seems to agree with what I'm thinking.

Krzyzewski scoffed at the notion that his program ever flies under the radar, ("Otherwise, these people wouldn't be out there or in our place trying to beat us," he said)...

I'm starting to think Duke is gonna bust some heads open come tournament time.

Fighting in da club!!!

Missouri guard will be punished after his damn jaw heals.

Missouri guard Stefhon Hannah will be sidelined four to six weeks with a fractured jaw sustained in an altercation Sunday morning.

Hannah was injured outside the Athena, a Columbia nightclub and restaurant, and had surgery...

Hey, that's what you get for looking at another man's girl. Or something like that. We're just saying. I also love the fact that the article insinuates that it's the coach's fault.

Hannah is the latest Tigers player to be involved in an off-court incident since (head coach Mike) Anderson was hired about two years ago. Kalen Grimes, the school's leading rebounder last season, was dismissed from the team after being arrested for hitting a man in the face with the butt end of a shotgun in St. Louis last July.

Sheez, hit in the face with a butt of a shotgun! PWND!!!!

UNC to open museum praising how good UNC is.

Among the more unique items: a letter from Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski to Michael Jordan wishing him well after Jordan had decided to play for the Tar Heels...

Of course that was the second version of the letter. The first version probably said:

Dear Michael,

FUCK YOU.

Coach K

P.S. You'll never amount to anything without me. You'll probably get drafted by the suck-ass Chicago Bulls.

Friday, November 9, 2007

You think Coach K wanted to make a statement?

56 to 121?

I have a friend who "goes" to Duke and he managed to snap a few photos of the Blue Devils' playbook for that game against NC Central...

AND he managed to record Duke's practice sessions for NC Central...

I have peeps everywhere this season.

Duke could care less

Duke students couldn't give a shit about games outside of North Carolina and Maryland.

Student attendance has been slipping over the past five years, and when the men's team finished 22-11 last year, more than half the home games were played before empty seats in the student sections.

Even men's coach Mike Krzyzewski is worried by the empty seats.

"So how do we tackle that?" Krzyzewski said.

Cameron Crazies aren't so crazy, huh? They see their team sucking the big stiff one lately. And this season does not look pretty either.

Last year, some Duke games drew as few as 900 students, (Duke senior Roberto) Bazzani said.

"I'm not going to say our record was miserable it wasn't," Bazzani said. "But Duke fans, we've been spoiled a little bit. We expect an Elite Eight every year, a run at an ACC championship.

Can you smell that? *sniff sniff* Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh, misplaced arrogance.

Take us home, Ben Folds...

And we're back...

The Sports Network has their Big East preview. As predicted, Georgetown is the clear favorite with Seton Hall bringing up da rear. When was the last time Seton Hall has a winning season?

Hey, we were in March Madness last year! Then Wichita State happened.

Actually I would have given Wichita State the This Is Sparta award for that nut stomping victory over the Pirates.

One interesting comment made about Syracuse...

After 31 years with the Orange it is beginning to look a lot like the end of the line (eventually) for coach Boeheim.

BEGINNING to look like the end?! Only his rotting carcass is coaching at this point.

Our boy Joe Lunardi gives a Q&A on this year's tournament selection process. A good read from Mr. Bracketology.

Jay Bilas has a basketball preview column. He brings up a great evil question about the new enforcement of the NCAA coach restraint rule...

"Which coach will be rung up first? Decorum is important and should be encouraged. I just don't believe it should be up to the officials to do it unless a coach's behavior interferes with the orderly administration of the game. However, with the emphasis on bench decorum, several coaches can count on being rung up early for technical fouls. Who will it be?"

My prediction of who will get hit with Ts early and often (in order of most likely to least likely but still will probably get 1 or 2):

Knight, Izzo, Crean, Romar, McKay, Weber, Sampson, Boeheim and Krzyzewski.

If your coach isn't listed, that means he is a pussy that has no passion for the game. Zing!
