I Before We and Drunk Cooking

So two things came to mind today while we wait for this horrible, horrible college basketball off season to end. The first is a question that comes up again and again on the blog and our Twitter Feed:

Why do you use the term "we" all the time? Isn't it just you writing? Are you schizophrenic?

Well, no. We think. Actually it goes like this; Yes, I (Gabby) write about 95% of the stuff on the Blog and Twitter. But I have friends who help me. So if I am using the term "we" that means that whatever it is that I am saying was a collaborative thought or expression. If I am using the word "I" that means it was solely me who came up with whatever crap that I am spewing.

The second thing was an overdue introduction to our audience on someone who we have been watching and laughing ourselves silly over:

This is Hannah Hart, proprietor of My Drunk Kitchen. She adeptly combines two things I love to do, cooking and drankin' to hilarious effect. Before Baby M2M was born I use to do this a lot. But Baby M2M does not allow me the quiet time necessary to nurse a hangover so I stopped. Plus Mrs. M2M says that it would be good for my health to stop too. But Hannah has taken up the slack for me. So check her out, citizens. You'll be glad you did.

Also, I do have to say that since I stopped drankin' and cooking my meals have been a whole lot more tasty. I guess that is another benefit of sorts.

Carry on.

The Rules of Engagement

We've mentioned all this in bits and pieces throughout this blog, but we thought maybe it would be a perfect time to distill it down in one bite sized post. We call these our off-season posting rules.

Now that college hoops is done, we switch over to our three other loves in life to help occupy us in the void (in no particular order):

A) College football
B) Politics
C) Cooking

So expect a healthy dose of our adventures in the kitchen, why Florida QB Tim Tebow is not a man but in fact a machine, and why we think Present Obama is the only hope you have left, citizen.

Also, we always made a point to at least post once a day, if not more. During the off-season expect us to shift that down and post 1 to 2 times a week.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will the Moment of Zen Wednesdays continue? It's the only joy I have in my life.
Of course, meat beater. We would never give that up.

When will you stop with the off-topic crap and get back to the hoops?
Between October and November.

Does this mean you guys will NOT talk about college basketball until October?
Sure we will. If there is a breaking story or something we find interesting, you'll find it here. Like how could Kent State be so stupid as to try to recruit a guy who has previously broken commitments with Miami of Ohio, Providence, Long Beach State and Oregon State? And now it looks like he will leave the Golden Flashes for Hawaii. Good job.

What else do you guys do when there is no college hoops on?
Drink and make drinks for others to drink.

For prosperity

Have we mentioned we love to cook? Yes, sir. And last night while making fixins for the Clemson/Duke "This Is Sparta" game we created a doozy of a snack!

1) Seasoned 3 chicken thighs with salt and pepper and lightly dusted them with flour
2) Rough chopped a half an onion (ONIONS!)
3) Seared chicken thighs in a large pan on high heat with olive oil until golden brown on both sides
4) Took thighs out and tossed onions in, seasoned with salt, pepper, italian seasonings, crushed red pepper
5) Poured in a half a cup of good white wine, put chicken thighs on top
6) Placed in 425 degree oven for 30 minutes
7) Made broccoli and cheddar rice from a box
8) Plated a bed of the broccoli/cheddar rice, then scooped out the thighs with the onions and placed on top of the rice with a parsley garnish
9) Grubbed like motherfuckers

Basketball and cooking, good times.

Our 15 minutes minus 10

That's Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, the Too Hot Tamales on Food Network. We got to meet Susan (the one on the right) at Ciudad, one of their restaurants in LA.

We are happy boys right now.

Ok, back to basketball.

The final countdown (of sorts)

There are few things we love almost as much as college basketball...

Air.

Yup, everyone loves air.

Cooking.

Those Iron Chefs ain't got nothing on us!

Our significant others.

[picture redacted by request]

And college football. Oh yeah. And come Saturday we will be doing our annual tradition. Getting as drunk as possible and watching as many games as possible while stuffing ourselves with very bad for you tailgate grub starting at 9 AM! We may even do a liveblog.

So rejoice, citizens. The start of college football means that college hoops is just around the corner.

B) Politics
C) Cooking

So expect a healthy dose of those sexy McCain girls, our adventures in the kitchen, and why the spread offense is making mediocre coaches look like geniuses.

Also, we always made a point to at least post once a day, if not more. During the off-season expect us to shift that down and post 2 to 3 times a week.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will the Moment of Zen Wednesdays continue? Please?!
Of course, silly. We would never give that up.

When will you stop with the off-topic crap and get back to the hoops?
Between late October and early November.

Does this mean you guys will NOT talk about college basketball until October?
Sure we will. If there is a breaking story or something we find interesting, you'll find it here. Like the ever expanding arrests of basketball players at Rhode Island colleges. Gambling on the Island!

What else do you guys do when there is no college hoops on?
We entertain the ladies we neglected during the season. Oh yeah.

(Disclaimer: Not an actual representation of the actual ladies we actually entertain. Wife is unballing fist now.)

On a final note, expect the season end Top 25 Blogpoll to come out early next week. Hmmm, I wonder who's number 1?

Selection Show live (kind of)

This is where I will be talking about the picks for March Madness. When it happens.

Right now I'm cooking my famous spicy red beans and rice chicken thighs. I should come up with a better name.

Be back at 3 pm.

3 pm: And here we go....

UNC, Memphis, Kansas and UCLA as number ones... No surprises there.

On the live feeds into the different team, Xavier is sitting there like "Fuck you, where did you place us." Confidence.

That is crap... Mt. St. Mary's has to do a play in. Indiana is playing Arkansas? That is gonna be a slaughter.

Bye bye American U. They play Tennessee.

Boise State? Where did they come from? 14th seed.

There is not gonna be a 16th seed beating a #1 seed this year!!!

Conference root! UNLV AT #8!!!!!!!!

WISCONSIN AS A NUMBER #3?!?!

Hey, my wife's undergrad school Cal State Fullerton is in. But playing Wisconsin. They are not good to me (the Badgers), but they are unfortunately better than Fullerton.

USC against Kansas State. It's gonna be Mayo versus Beasley!!!! That should be good.

Almost All these 16th seeds are here for the first time. I feel bad for them.

I was wrong... Miami is in.

Conference root! BYU also as a #8!!!!!

MUST SEE GAME! West Virginia vs. Arizona!

A nod to blogger and WKU alum, The Bracket Board. Good luck!

Ok, I'm out. We will probably publish our bracket either tonight or tomorrow.

Trying to be like Michael Ruhlman

Had an idea to make a crab omelette...

The culprits (crab meat, cheese, chopped chilies, tomatoes, eggs, S&P)

The somewhat messy result

If I had it to do over again I would have made a spice mix for the crab meat.

Don't worry folks, come December we will be all about college basketball.
